You know that baby druid that I started the first week I started this blog? The goal was to play her casually and level her up with friends. That actually sort of worked until she hit 71 and my leveling friend quit playing That was back at halloween. Then she just sort of sat there doing nothing but collecting dust. But, becoming somewhat bored of raiding on my main I resumed interest in her and she hit 80 last week.

Now I’m in the process of gearing up this new tree. Actually it’s not going too badly considering I don’t have the endurance to really badge grind, and with all the raiding on my main I don’t get to raid much on the new tree.

Anyway, to the subject. If you’re a new tree and you want to put out numbers, dear god don’t stack spell power. Please, just don’t. What you need to focus on is hate and regen. Gem spirit, gem haste… spellpower is absolutely useless when you’re OOM.

Rule #1 of being a good tree: Always be casting! From the 10 seconds before the pull till the boss dies, you should never stop casting in any fight. Now, if you aren’t able to do that because of mana, then you need to fix your problem. SPIRIT my friends. Its great when you’re geared, but its godly when you’re not.

LoL Min Maxing: I have an issue with this term being used for healers… more spell power does not = more healing. Yes, for damage that may be true, but it’s not true for us. Hell half of it is just going to over healing anyway. Healers have to be more balanced than that. Regen, haste, mana pool, spell power… all important. I understand if you DPS on your main it’s hard to wrap your head around the idea of having balanced stats. I know that in a lot of fights when things go your way, you can do fine will all SP. But on the really hard fights or when things mess up and you are recovering, that sort of thing… trust me on this one, you don’t wanna be THAT tree who is now useless. I’d Brez but I don’t have mana, can I borrow someone else’s innervate? If you’re that tree, I don’t like you.

LoL Gear score: The same person playing the same character on the same fights in the same raid will do better with better gear. As someone who started ICC with a 3500 GS and still out healed the others, I rather think GS is retarded. They probably sucked. But hey, you can’t tell they suck from GS, nor can you tell I don’t. Please, don’t be a GS Nazi, I don’t like them either. You can always kick people later muhahaha. In my experience an under-geared alt of a good player will pwn an geared main of a bad player any day, be it in dps, healing or tanking.

/endrant

Happy Tree-ing

A friend had told me that since they added gaining experience to battlegrounds that Alterac Valley was the way to go. Upon hitting 51 on our lowbie horde, we gave this a try… holy crap, yes, it is highly recommended. Before you start, run north of Tarren Mill and grab the AV quests (don’t forget the ones in the cave) because they only add to the burst. With these quests, and the basic XP gained from winning, we got nearly an entire complete level in only two games. Pretty sweet.

On a side note, I had to laugh at all the people in AV. Back in vanilla WoW I use to PVP quite a lot. Ok, a very lot. And you’d always have the people bitching and wining about this and that and how “if we were horde we’d be organized.”…. you know those guys. Well I’m please to report that the horde bitch about the very same things No shock really. No the grass isn’t greener.

And healing in AV. Honestly people, if you’re a healer, why don’t you heal in battleground? I’m not sure that as level 51 I should consistently have four times more healing than the next closest person. And yes druids, tree form is nifty…. but in AV it’s also like a big flashing sign over your head screaming “I’m a healer, KILL ME!”… what are you people thinking… just say no to treeing at 51 in AV

Having played with it for a week, I can say now that I don’t like the t9 bonus. Well… to be more clear, I don’t like the t-9 bonus more than I like the t8 bonus. Sure I like seeing the big numbers with all the crits, but if it’s critting on someone who’s at full health, what’s the point? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure on healing intensive fights, where everyone is taking damage all the time, that I’m doing a lot more healing. I have little doubt of that. It’s just…. I guess (sort of selfishly) I really like casting rejuvenation and seeing it heal the person right away if they are going down fast, or have gotten too low. It seems somewhat less satisfying to cast rejuv knowing that (in a few seconds) it will start to help them. I want instant healing on my instant casts damnit!! Perhaps it just takes some getting use to…. what are your thoughts?

It’s officially October now, Happy Halloween (or Hallow’s End)…. check out my cute little halloween troll on the right —> If you like her, visit the artist’s website.

I have also been playing my cow, and we’ve made it to BRD. Well, ok it’s not on my LFG for a few more dings but I’ve healed it a couple of times now. I think I am finally wearing more leather than cloth…. now my shamen friend who’s leveling with me is another story. BRD is the first place he’s gotten any remotely caster-ey mail… shame he needs a couple more dings to actually get it out of his bag and wear it!!

As mentioned previously in my blog, I am casually leveling a tauren druid with some friends. Our all cow group consists of a hunter, a warrior a shaman and myself. Yesterday I dinged 18. Technically I dinged 14,15,16,17 and 18. We got a little carried away I also got my first blue and did all the quests in Ragefire Chasm. The definite highlight (ok, more so for me and the shaman…) was hitting 16, and being able to run a little faster!

Having an end game resto druid already, I knew exactly were to spend all my talent points, and what I wanted from all my gear. It turns out that end game logic doesn’t apply to a level 18. Without all the talents and spell power and ToL, rejuvenation isn’t exactly great. Regrowth is a little better but you don’t get lifeboom or wild growth or nourish for a looooooong time. I ended up putting full clicks into Naturalist and getting myself a Glyph of Healing Touch. Those suckers are fast now, .5 seconds. I know full well I won’t have either of these things if I ever get to 80, but right now, actually playing the lowbie, they seem like the right choices.

I looking forward to the next few levels. I’ll get a mount at 20, and I’ll finally be able to reach Intensity on my tree (0 Mp5 while casting just seems wrong!!) I’ll check back in with more of our adventures in a few levels

We did get nearly two full levels out of touching fires, and a small stack of blossoms. Since the event does run for two long weeks, maybe we’ll be able to get a couple more levels and push though to a few more fires before it all ends :)

As someone who usually plays WoW pretty hardcore, I’m doing something a little different. Tonight I made a casual character. A character that I can play with my non-WoW friend Loretta and her semi-hardcore husband Brian. We all made a Tauren and agreed to play them together once a week, every Sunday afternoon (at least for now). In our first night of play we did all of the quests in the starting area, with all of us ending at level 6, and running up to the inn to log off.

I made a druid. I know this might seem an odd choice since my main is a druid, but I really enjoy the class… and as this one is a cow and not a NE, it will be slightly different. Also, it has been a long time since I leveled my druid, and even when I originally leveled her she wasn’t my main at the time… meaning I had high level friends to rush me though most things. Since this blog is for all druids, and not just level 80 geared druids, it might help me get back in touch with my lower level counterparts.

But most of all I think it will be fun. Leveling with friends always makes it more enjoyable, and playing Horde will make a fun change… and I’ll make a WoW addict out of Loretta yet!

Retta will be playing a hunter, and Brian will be playing a warrior. I have one other friend that might be joining us as well. I’ll keep you updated here each week!
